The event is held in memory of Geoff Findon, co-organiser of the first Louth and District Hospice Limited Bikeathon,
held back in 2013.
Geoff was sadly unable to attend the event as he lost his battle with cancer shortly after the event.
Geoff was a keen cyclist and a long time member of Cycling UK (Cyclists’ Touring Club).
This year’s bikeathon will once again raise money for the hospice, the event coinciding with National Bike Week, which this year takes place from June 9th - 17th. Since 2013, Cycling UK Louth have raised £2000 for the Hospice.
NATIONAL BIKE WEEK
CYCLING UK LOUTH - SOCIABLE CYLING
UPDATE 10th JUNE 2018
Many thanks to all of those that gave so freely of their valuable time and made such an effort in helping with this year's event. To the 'Cycling UK Louth Team', to the members and volunteers of Louth and District Hospice Limited (including Bev Petchell and Philip Burman) and of course to the 50 or so entrants who participated in the three separate rides on offer. Teams from Louth Cycle Centre and the Brown Cow Buckaroos entered the longer ride, along with Tracey Wilkinson, Vicky Schofield and friends to name a few. A sizable contingent of Cycling UK Louth entered the 30 mile ride whilst there was a welcome return of the Allis and Perrin families on the 10 mile route to Rushmoor Country Farm Park & Falconry Centre, with Cycling UK Louth's Mike Gray leading. A splendid effort from all. Thanks also to deputy Mayor Cllr Fran Treanor and his wife Jane for officially waving off the 'Family Ride'.
After a cloudy start to the day the weather improved significantly and the riders were treated to warm sunshine for their return, befitting of such splendid efforts. First to return on the 50 mile ride were Duncan Worrell and Pete Goy at just after 11.35 am.
On the day we raised a total of £261.50, and with two generous donations, the total as of 10th June stands at £300.00.
